What’s in Store at the Annual Festival of Houses and Gardens?

If you are looking for a romantic getaway in Charleston, the best time to go is during the Annual Festival of Houses and Gardens. This festival happens during spring where the city shows off its majestic beauty. In winter, the people do all the maintenance needed in preparation for the coming of the travelers. They also do a little bit of spring cleaning before the festival becomes full blown.

The city boasts of its natural beauty with its historic architectural structures and lush gardens overflowing with colors. The houses here are also majestic, taking pride in Georgian, Victorian, or harborside appeal. The combination of the flowers in the garden and rich beauty of the homes in this city is what composes the Annual Festival of Houses and Gardens.

    When and Where to Go?

The festival starts in March. During the festival, the city has a tight schedule comprising many lectures, luncheons, tea gatherings, and tours. The festival usually ends in April.

During the festival, the city gets packed with travelers touring around. Usually, they go to different places in the city that demonstrate the rich heritage of Charleston. They visit about 7 to 10 historic sites a day on foot. They walk down streets and different sections of the city usually armed with a digital camera to take photos of its beauty.

Aside from the tours of the houses, there are also tours of different gardens. Doing this, you will be able to see many courtyards filled with plants and flowers. You can also marvel at the intricate designs of many gardens in the city. You might even drop by some of the elite gardens that use unique trees, shrubs, flowers, and exotics to show off their beauty.

The city is also known as one of the busiest ports in the Southeast. Therefore, the docks are also a popular place that the tourists go. There are also cruises available such as the Harbor of History Boat Cruises, which dives into a different look at the city.

In different venues, there are wine-, vodka-, and rum-tasting events. You can participate in these to have a different experience of the city. There are also musical events around the festival. They feature different styles of music, but if you are into period music then you are in for a nice treat when you visit for the Annual Festival of Houses and Gardens.

So, if you want a different kind of experience while taking in the romance, this festival has a lot to offer. The sights and sounds will overwhelm your senses. It will definitely a trip for the books.
