Taste of Charleston It is the culinary event of the entire year. Visit the Governor’s House Inn and the Lowcountry for The Southern Living Taste of Charleston. The three-day event showcases delicious dishes served by Charleston Restaurants. There are several components to the Taste of Charleston. First, there is the main event. It’s held at the historic Boone Hall Plantation. Fifty of the best casual and fine dining restaurants in the Lowcountry will serve up sample size portions, along with beer and wine. There will be live music from The Piedmont Boys, a specialty and imported beer tasting tent, the legendary ‘Waiter’s Race,’ and a children’s area. US Foods, Sysco, Blue Moon, Biltmore Wines, and the Town of Mount Pleasant sponsor the event on September 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission tickets are just $17.50 in advance or $25 on the day of the event. Even better, it’s for a good cause. A portion of the proceeds will benefit several charities, including The Ronald McDonald House, Hollings Cancer Center, Hospitality Heroes, Shriners Hospitals for Children, and Charleston County Schools Science Materials Resource Center. Other events that make up the Taste of Charleston include Taste: Sweet and Southern on Shem Creek. This portion will be held Friday, September 27 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Cottage on the Creek. The intimate evening on Shem Creek will feature performances from world-renowned singers and songwriters. A variety of top caterers will be there, as well as the opportunity for moonlit harbor cruises. Tickets for Taste: Sweet and Southern on Shem Creek are $50. On Saturday, September 28, you can watch a group of local chefs go head to head in the Taste: Iron Chef Competition. It will run from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Culinary Institute of Charleston at Palmer Campus. The chefs and teams are Chef Drew Hedlund with Fleet Landing and Chef Brandon Buck with Middleton Place versus Chef Jael Allen with Mosaic and Chef Eva Broyles with Eli’s Table. They will have 45 minutes to create and cook at least four dishes to be judged after they learn the secret ingredient. You can purchase amphitheater seating or general admission tickets. They range from $25 to $50. There is also a list of participating restaurants that will design a three-course menu, each course paired with a specialty or craft beer. Those dates will run September 27 through September 28. There are no tickets required for Taste of Charleston Dine Around.
