These are just a few reasons why you should visit Charleston. January 15 – January 18, 2014 Charleston Comedy Festival This will be the 11th year for the annual Charleston Comedy Festival. It’s the premier comedy festival in the Southeast. The Charleston Comedy Festival will have multiple venues, including Theatre 99, Footlight Players Theatre, Threshold Repertory Theatre, Lighthouse on the Creek, Redux Contemporary Art Center, PURE Theatre and Woolfe Street Playhouse. During the four day event, you’ll hear performers and comedy groups from all over the United States. This year’s festival will feature Chelsea Lately’s Moshe Kasher, Susan Messing, Frank Caeti, and more. January 26, 2014 Lowcountry Oyster Festival The world’s largest oyster festival has been named one of the top 20 events in the southeast by the Southeastern Tourism Society. Don’t miss out on the oyster shucking and eating fun. There will be contests, live music, wine, beer and a children’s area and food court. It’s also all for a good cause. The Lowcountry Oyster Festival benefits The Ronald McDonald House, Hospitality Heroes, Hollings Cancer Center, Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, and Charleston County Schools Science Materials Resource Center. March 29, 2014 Spring Jam Music Fest Head to Brittlebank Park for the second annual Spring Jam Music Fest. It’s being put on by The Bridge and will last for two days! This is a great cure for the winter blues. Mark your calendar now for this live music festival. March 29 – April 6, 2014 Family Circle Cup Tennis Tournament The City of Charleston and Daniel Island will once again serve as a backdrop to one of the richest and most traditional events in women’s professional tennis. Family Circle Cup is more than just a tennis tournament. It entertains fans with a variety of activities, truly a festival with some world-class tennis thrown in. It will all go down at the Family Circle Tennis Center, located at 161 Seven Farms Drive, Daniel Island. Click here for all the details. April 6, 2014 Lowcountry Cajun Festival From noon to 6 p.m., Louisiana will come to the Lowcountry. This full day of music, cajun and creole foods guarantees a great time for everyone. Admission is just $10 per person and it’s free for ages 12 and under. You can buy food, beverages and souvenirs on site. April 27, 2014 Mt. Pleasant Blessing of the Fleet For the 27th year, Mt. Pleasant will host its Blessing of the Fleet. Enjoy live music, local crafts, a boat parade and ceremonial blessing of the shrimp/fishing fleet during the annual event. It is intended to launch the fleet into a safe and prosperous shrimping season. July 27, 2014 Sustainable Seafood Dinner Middleton Place will play host to the South Carolina Aquarium for a Sustainable Seafood Dinner. You can savor the past and help sustain the future of the coast at “America’s oldest landscaped Gardens.” Tickets are $75 for the event, including tax and gratuity. You’ll enjoy a five course meal, paired specifically with wines from around the world and craft brews from one of Charleston’s local breweries.
