    Every year, for a few weeks during Spring, it’s possible to step back in time and bask in the beauty and history of the glorious city of Charleston. The event takes place every year, from the middle of March, until the end of April. Charleston, South Carolina, is a city with a regal connection, as well as being steeped in history. It was originally founded in honor of King Charles II of England. There are numerous historic buildings across the city, but it is the city’s Old and Historic District that receives special attention during this event. If you’re considering a romantic getaway in Charleston, this will be the time to see the city at its best. The long winter days will be a distant memory, and the spring cleaning will be done.     What is the Annual Festival of Houses and Gardens?

    The festival takes place when the gardens in the city are at their best. It is made up of a series of award-winning tours that take in some of the best of Charleston’s history, culture, architecture and, of course, its gardens. It is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to peek inside some of the houses and wander around their breathtaking gardens, many of which date back to the 18th century. Every day, it is possible to visit between 7 and 10 properties in one of the city’s 11 neighborhoods. The properties span an amazing range of architectural years, from the American colonial period to the early 20th century, with the Antebellum and Victorian eras also getting a look in.

    As well as tours of the local area, the festival includes lectures, teas, luncheons, musicals, soirees and various other activities. Each year, there are different activities and events you can enjoy.

    The Annual Festival of Houses and Gardens is spread out over several weeks, but there are thousands of people that visit the city to enjoy this event.
