Whether you are heading out of town for a wedding, funeral, birthday, or even just a vacation, at some point you will have to choose your housing arrangements and be faced with the difficult choice of deciding to stay at a classic bed and breakfast in Charleston or choose a more upscale hotel. Here are all the things that you should be considering when choosing between the two.
Quality of Breakfast
This one seems like an obvious point in favor of the b&b in Charleston. After all, it is literally in the name. When it comes to the most important meal of the day, you do not want to be stuck eating some subpar continental breakfast filled with cereal and low-quality muffins when you could be dining on fresh eggs benedict and fluffy waffles. If you happen to care about your food options, then you might want to look at staying in a nice little b&b instead.
Experiencing the Culture
Even if you are just going into the next state over, that does not mean that there are not certain things to experience that you might not otherwise get the chance to experience. Maybe the town is specifically known for their amazingly beautiful bike paths, in which case you will want to know which one is the best to visit. Sure, hotel concierge will probably know the basic information, such as which ones are the most popular, but they will not have the insight that the operator of a bed and breakfast would have. After all, they have likely lived in that area for a while and it is their job to know all the little things about the town.
This can either be a benefit or a downside depending on how you feel about conversing with strangers. For those of you who enjoy hearing the stories of other travelers, being in a mingling environment is probably going to be an enjoyable thing for you. If you prefer not to be expected to talk to anyone else, then a hotel might be a better option.
Amount of Amenities
This one is definitely in favor of hotels since they often come packed full of little amenities available to guests. Some of the more upscale ones frequently include a fitness centre, pool, in-room kitchen, and maybe even a game room. Unfortunately, when staying at a b&b, you are often limited to only the basic amenities, but if you can live without some optional fancy stuff for a few days, then you will see that the bed and breakfast more than makes up for it with its charm.
