    Family Circle Cup: Women’s Tennis Coming to Charleston

    Family Circle Cup It is the largest women’s only tennis tournament in the world and it takes place right here in Charleston! Approximately 100,000 people come to watch the Family Circle Cup every April, as more than 70 world class women athletes participate in the excitement. Start planning your trip now to Charleston for the Family Circle Cup in 2014. The 42nd event is set for March 29 through April 6. This year’s competition promises world-class tennis, along with a wide variety of activities throughout the tournament. You can stop by the Merchandise Tent and try tasty Charleston cuisine during the week. There’s also a fast serve machine where you can practice your return and several sponsor booths were you can win prizes! Memories will certainly be made during the annual event and records are always broken. Even better, the event is for a great cause. Family Circle Cup, sponsored by Family Circle Magazine, focuses on making a positive impact. The tournament’s charity mission is to empower and enhance people’s lives with an emphasis on women, children and families. It proudly supports the City of Charleston’s Courting Kids Program and Tennis in the City. So here’s a little history. The Family Circle Cup has been a pioneer in women’s professional sports since 1973. It has created milestones that have directly influenced the popularity of women’s professional tennis. Few tournaments can truly compare, as it was the first women’s tennis event to offer $100,000 in prize money. It was also the first women’s event to be broadcast on network television. Held for 28 years in Hilton Head, the tournament made its move to Charleston in 2001. The partnership between Family Circle magazine and the City of Charleston became the first of its kind in women’s tennis. Its benefits are apparent by the state-of-the-art facility on Daniel Island. You MUST attend the WTA Premier Event that has a roster of past champions including Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Tracy Austin, Steffi Graf, Gabriela Sabatini, Martina Hingis, Jennifer Capriati, Venus Williams, Justine Henin, Serena Williams and Carolina Wozniacki. You can purchase front row box seats to catch the action or enjoy an aeriall view from the grandstands. Family Circle Cup has tickets available for every budget and preference.
