    Charleston’s Best Hidden Secrets

Whether you are from South Carolina or not, chances are that you do not know everything that the great city of Charleston has to offer. From nature to the arts and even shopping, this unique city truly has a little bit of everything to offer to both its residents and visitors. Here are some of the best things that you might not have known about before and should experience in Charleston.

    White Point Gardens

Located in the heart of the city, this historic park is perfect for those that love it when nature and history come together. This area not only contains exquisite cannons, monuments, and a variety of beautiful shrubbery, it also contains centuries of great American history. It served as a special point of interest during the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

    Angel Oak

Speaking of history and nature, this amazing example of nature at its finest is located at Johns Island just outside of the city. Setting eyes on this monstrous tree is like taking a look back in time. Its far reaching canopy and moss-covered exterior is a testament to its age and dexterity. Although there is not a concrete date for how old this tree is, it is estimated to be more than 1,500 years old and still going strong.

    Historic Places to Stay

As it turns out, there are so many historic bed and breakfasts in Charleston, along with hotels, that it felt wrong to include just one. Whether you want to overlook gorgeous rivers while you enjoy your living space that is riddled with a rustic look or you are interested in staying in the same residence as the youngest signer of the Declaration of Independence, this great city has options for you.

    Mepkin Abbey

It is not all just nature and history, although the city has more than enough of both of those things to go around, there are also spiritual experiences to be had. If you stop by the Mepkin Abbey, you will be able to look upon the community of Trappist monks and see them silently working their land. For those of you who feel like you need a bit of spiritual healing yourself, there is also the option to spend the weekend at one of their spiritual retreats.

    Bowens Island Restaurant

Have you ever want to experience seafood so fresh that they literally did every step from catching it to cooking it right in front of you? Well that is exactly what you will find if you go eat at the wonderful Bowens Island Restaurant.
