Your Charleston Travel Guide for Autumn

Charleston Travel Guide Many think vacation season ends with summer, but autumn is actually the best time to visit Charleston. Perfect temperatures, combined with the historic and charming backdrop of downtown Charleston’s cobblestone streets, make fall ideal for visitors. Make your way to the Governor’s House Inn and take in all the city has to offer. We hope you enjoy your Charleston Travel Guide for autumn. There’s nothing better than the changing of the leaves and a surplus of pumpkins. Legare Farms on Johns Island has tons of fun fall activities during the month of October. Visit the pumpkin patch to choose your perfect pumpkin. They range from $3 to $8. There’s also a maze cut into a 12-acre field of native wax myrtles. Take a hayride or make your own scarecrow that you can take home for decorating. Concessions are also available! If you want to find a pumpkin on James Island, head to Bethany United Methodist Church. They receive a huge shipment of pumpkins and sell them to the public. There are so many to choose from! Stop by throughout the month of October to select your treasured pumpkin. The kids will have fun with pumpkin decorating kits, while you learn new pumpkin-carving ideas. Another popular event is the Fall Tours of Homes and Gardens, which has been selected by the Southeast Tourism Society as a Top 20 event. You can take a stroll under the lights of Charleston’s doorways during the event that benefits the Preservation Society. The five week event runs from October 3-27, on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Coastal Carolina Fair is a HUGE attraction in autumn. Its vision is to be the “cleanest, safest, most enjoyable fair anywhere.” Owned and operated by the Exchange Club of Charleston, the Coastal Carolina Fair will be held from October 31 through November 10 at the Exchange Park Fairgrounds in Ladson. Harvest Fest is a fun event taking place November 2 at Johns Island County Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will include a scarecrow making contest, craft show, penny diving, lasso demonstrations, five blue grass bands, pumpkin decorating, a hay wagon ride and delicious food! Just head to the Mullet Hall Equestrian Center to get in on the action. Starting November 8, the Holiday Festival of Lights will kick off on James Island. The James Island County Park lights up over 2-million lights to provide you with an enchanting 3-mile driving tour. There’s fun for everyone, including a 54 passenger train ride through the park and a marshmallow roast! There are carousel rides, gingerbread houses, a climbing wall and more!
