When it comes to deciding where you want to get married, there are a lot of things to keep in mind and it can seem like a lot of pressure given how important of a day it is in your life. Instead of getting overwhelmed by everything to consider and how to know what is right or wrong, go in with these questions to help narrow down your search and make sure you find the perfect location:
What do you offer?
It sounds like a simple question, but many locations will have different packages available for their location and services, and it may not always be clear what is included or offered for each selection. Not only do you want to know what is offered for the particular package you select, but you also don’t want to be ripped off and you want make sure you are able to take advantage of additional offerings or add-ons if available. Before you commit to a package, have a clear understanding of what it includes, what the cost is, and how much flexibility there is in those offerings (i.e., more or less people, change of mind for food).
What about accommodation?
For a night as important as the one you are getting married, the last thing you want to have to worry about is finding a place to stay and having it end up being far away from where you carry out your ceremony. Most places that host weddings also have accomodation options. Ask about whether this is the case for the location you are visiting, and if so get specific: Is there a discount on rooms? How many can they reserve for you and your guests? Is there a large suite available for the bride and for the bridal party? In Charleston, historic wedding venues, while beautiful, may have different accommodation arrangements than you expect from a more modern location, so it is important to be aware of this going into it.
What is covered by the hosts?
Most of the time, wherever you choose to get married, they will provide things such as tables and chairs, linens, microphones, speakers, tableware, and the basics necessary to host a large event. But for things such as food, servers, alcohol, cake, and more specific items, make sure you know who is responsible. Some brides would like to have their big night catered, but outside food is not permitted on the premises, while others want in-house food, and the establishment cannot accommodate cooking for large numbers. While this should all be discussed in the initial portion of understanding what is offered, getting really clear on the details ensures you don’t end up without a cake on this important night!
While getting married is a significant milestone in your life, and no doubt will be a big day, choosing the location and working out the details doesn’t have to be stressful. Do some research ahead of time and ask the right questions, and you’ll be sure to end up getting hitched without a hitch!
