Charleston Events in October

Charleston EventsOctober is one of the favorited months to visit Charleston for a variety of reasons. From the comfortable temperatures to the many activities, it’s a great time of year. Here’s a list of Charleston Events in October from your favorite Charleston area bed and breakfast.

MOJA Arts Festival

This celebration of African-American and Caribbean Art runs through October 6, 2013. In its 30th year, the MOJA Arts Festival has been selected as one of the Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 events. It promises an exciting lineup of events, with a variety of traditional favorites. Nearly half of the events are admission-free!

The Fall Tours: History + Architecture

For the 37th year, the Fall Tours return to Charleston from October 3-27. The event is hosted by the Preservation Society of Charleston. It will take you inside some of Charleston’s most historic privately-owned homes and gardens. There’s a new format this year that includes themed tours ranging from architectural overview to Charleston history tours and even day-long bus tours to explore historic churches and plantations.

Greek Fall Festival

This year’s Greek Fall Festival runs October 4-6 in Charleston. There will be various artists filling in the air with Greek sounds, and all of your favorite Greek foods will be on hand. The annual festival celebrates Greek culture, food and entertainment, which the Greek community has shared with Charleston for over 40 years. The annual festival is held each Mother’s Day weekend, but organizers have now decided to hold a second event in the fall.

Isle of Palms Connector Run and Walk for the Child

The 10K run and 5K run/walk benefits local children’s programs. Race Day is October 5 at 8 a.m. It’s presented by Waggoner Law Firm.

Scrumptious Summerville Kitchen Tour

You can sample gourmet treats prepared by premier Lowcountry chefs and tour grand homes during the Kitchen Tour. Local musicians are also scheduled to perform, while area florists decorate with beautiful floral arrangements. It’s all going down on Sunday, October 6. The homes may be toured from 1 to 5 p.m.

Wine Women and Shoes

Grab your sole sisters and head to this event to benefit the Florence Crittenton programs of South Carolina. It will be held Sunday, October 6 at the Daniel Island Club.

That Big Book Sale

Over 60,000 used books, CDs, DVDs, audio books and videos will be for sale at the Omar Shrine Auditorium from October 11-13. Don’t miss out on That Big Book Sale.

Goose Creek Fall Festival

Hosted by the City of Goose Creek, this year’s Fall Festival will be held behind the Goose Creek Municipal Center on October 12. It benefits the Helping Hands of Goose Creek.

Komen Race for the Cure

Head to Family Circle Cup Stadium on October 19 for the Komen Race for the Cure. Join friends, family, co-survivors and survivors as they make an impact on breast cancer in the Lowcountry and world.
