Charleston Water SportsIt may be hot in Charleston, but that’s all the more reason to cool off! If you’re planning a trip soon to the Governor’s House Inn, we suggest you dive in to Charleston Water Sports!

Here are a few ideas:

Fishing

The options for fishing are endless in Charleston. You can fish inshore, offshore or near shore for tarpon, redfish, sea trout, flounder, sheepshead, ladyfish, Spanish mackerel, bluefish, black drum, blackfish, sharks and more! Visit Charleston Sport Fishing on Isle of Palms.

Kayaking

Kayakers tour everything from Shem Creek and Folly Creek to Isle of Palms. Coastal Expeditions offers saltwater, black water, and multi-day kayak tours. The 3-hour daily tours are a great introduction to kayaking in the Lowcountry.

Parasailing

You can fly on up to 800-feet of line above the ocean with Tidal Wave Water Sports. It only lasts about ten minutes, but you’ll make memories to last a lifetime. Get a group together of twelve passengers or try tandem parasailing, which makes for quite a unique marriage proposal. Soar high in the sky and take in the amazing view!

Surfing

Folly Beach is the most popular spot for surfing in the Charleston area. The day’s glassiest and cleanest surf conditions can be found at dawn near the Washout break. In the afternoon, try anywhere from 6th to 9th block on the island’s east side.

Kite Boarding

Also known as kite surfing, kite boarding has become a popular water sport in Charleston. You can fly like the wind as you learn to kite surf near Folly Beach. FB Watersports offers two-hour lessons with equipment, gear and instruction.

Jet Skiing

Jet skiing is the perfect activity for those that aren’t sure if they want to get wet. But you can always jump in! The Intracoastal Waterway is just waiting to be explored. Capers Island is also a great place to pick up your speed as you ride. Stop by the IOP Marina to find out more.

Stand-up Paddleboarding

Voted Charleston’s best stand-up paddleboard company for two years, Charleston SUP Safaris is located on Folly Beach. You can go on an eco-safari tour, take river and surf lessons, and rent or buy your own paddleboard. Stand-up paddleboarding is fun for the whole family, but also great for “me-time.”

Waterskiing and Wakeboarding

Go slalom skiing or wakeboarding on your trip to Charleston, SC. Just bring your bathing suit and leave the rest up to Trophy Lakes. They offer private waterski and wakeboard lessons. You can even attend a day camp if you’re a beginner or want to perfect your skills.

Tubing

Tubing the Edisto River is a must on your trip! There are several access sites in Charleston County, including Live Oak Landing, Edisto Beach State Park, ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge and more. You can also venture out into Dorchester, Orangeburg, Aiken, Bamberg and Colleton counties. There’s so much to explore! Tubing is relaxing and so much fun! Go with a friend or an entire group. It’s the perfect way to unwind and it’s affordable too!
